Homework

Summer 1

Phonics

Reading with your child is so important and we ask that you read for at least 5 minutes each day as part of their homework. This gives your child the opportunity to segment and blend CVC words and retain their phonemic knowledge.

If you would like to know some of the phonemes/digraphs/trigraphs your child will be learning, please watch this video which models accurate pronunciation.

Here are some fantastic free phonics resources that you can use at home:

Practise your tricky words each day, again just for 5 minutes. You could hide them around the house, practise writing them, spelling them with magnetic letters or you could even listen to some tricky word songs.

Maths

Helping your child to recognise numerals will help them access lots of topics in mathematics. Counting, ordering and formation are also key skills that you can practise with them to help them develop and improve.

Numberblocks is an educational program that exposes children to number sense.

Writing

Practise your letter formation, ensuring you start and finish your letters in the right place. At Clayton Brook, we use the Red Rose formation patters. These are little rhymes that help your children when writing.

Practise writing your name. This way you can label your own creations during provision.

Fine Motor

Fine motor activities help to strengthen and develop your hands/fingers. They are also great for hand eye co-ordination and focus. Activities such as tweezing, threading, popping bubble wrap, zips/buttons, scissors will really help you to develop. Without strong hands/fingers, letter formation when writing will feel a challenge.
